Yes, this was called the U.S. Open Challenge. It was at Torrey Pines, where they held the U.S. Open. Celebrities, and one contest winner got to play under U.S. Open conditions.

The winner John Atkinson, an 8 handicap shot a 114.
    Justin Timberlake- 98
    Matt Lauer- 100
    Tony Romo-84

Theyre going to have it before the U.S. Open again this year.

The idea is really cool, could a 10-handicap break 100 on an Open level golf course. John Atkinson was chosen as the winner based on an essay contest. Unfortunately, John was diagnosed with cancer before the essay contest. By the time of the competition he was not in his best condition and did not play very well (by his own admission). I wish him the best, and hope he is doing well.
There is another similar contest for Bethpage, Black, Michael Jordan is playing.
